The speed motion sensor utilizes a groove IR optocoupler to sense objects between the IR emitter and IR receiver on board. This methodology allows the module to count the number of obstructions in a given time frame. This characteristic made it very suitable for measuring the speed of rotation.

The digital output is in LOW state when the sensor is not obstructed, and the LED will be lit up. Digital output will be in HIGH state when the sensor is covered, and the LED will be turned off. An on-board potentiometer is available to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor.
